AMERICAN Announces Plans to Build Spiral-Welded Pipe Facility in Flint, Mich.

Today AMERICAN announced plans to build a new spiral-welded pipe facility in Flint, Mich. The facility will initially support the Karegnondi Water Authority (KWA) project, recently awarded to AMERICAN, and then, other regional water infrastructure projects.

“We believe Flint is ideally situated to offer us a strategic advantage in the developing market in this region of the country,” said Patrick Hook, vice president of operations for AMERICAN SpiralWeld, a subsidiary of AMERICAN located in Columbia, S.C.

The KWA pipeline, scheduled for completion in 2015, will supply 60 million gallons of water a day to the region. AMERICAN will supply 60 miles of spiral-welded pipe, 17 miles of ductile iron pipe and 24 large diameter Flex-Ring gate valves.

Construction of the spiral-welded facility in Flint is expected to begin early next year and to be operational around this time next year. The facility will employ 50 to 60 people.
