AMERICAN SpiralWeld Pipe in Columbia, South Carolina, celebrated the grand opening of its new 44,000-square-foot manual blasting and coating facility on February 12, 2026. (Blasting cleans and prepares the pipe’s surface before it is coated.) The custom-designed and engineered operation center will improve efficiency and productivity. The new, high-tech modern system is also even more environmentally friendly.

"Demand for large diameter water transmission pipe continues to increase across the country,” said John Hagelskamp, senior vice president of sales for AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company, parent company of AMERICAN SpiralWeld Pipe. “This facility helps ensure we can continue to grow with our customers and meet their needs well into the future.”

“This system is next level,” said Sahil Attri, mechanical systems engineer with AMERICAN SpiralWeld Pipe. “We have worked with our contractor and suppliers to customize the facility and equipment to meet our specialized requirements to provide even higher quality and productivity.”

The system includes an advanced dust collection system and negative-50-degree dewpoint to control moisture. It also more efficiently captures, filters and reuses the steel grit used for blasting. This reduces waste, making the process even more environmentally friendly.

“This one-of-a-kind facility is a win-win-win for customers, employees and the environment,” said Patrick Hook, vice president of operations for AMERICAN SpiralWeld Pipe. “More high-quality, finished product for customers; more comfortable working conditions for employees; and more advancements in environmental technologies -- all around, a significant step forward in operational excellence.”

Construction on the facility began in April 2025 and was completed in November, when commissioning began. Final inspections were recently completed, and the team moved in. About 15 employees oversee operations in the facility.
