AMERICAN and Partners Work to Keep Birmingham Beautiful
Community Involvement, VideosAMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company partnered with Keep Birmingham Beautiful (KBB) on a Citywide Cleanup Day on April 24, 2026. About 80 volunteers planted trees and flowers, worked in community gardens and cleaned up the neighborhoods surrounding the company’s facility. Other companies sponsored similar activities across the city of Birmingham.
Volunteers at ACIPCO’s event included employees; members of the Jefferson County Master Gardeners Association; ACIPCO-Finley, Hooper City, North Birmingham and Smithfield Estates neighbors; and G.W. Carver High School students and coaches.
“This cleanup day is a wonderful example of what can be accomplished when people unite for a common cause – keeping Birmingham beautiful,” said KBB Executive Director Sa’de McClaney-Hammond. “Taking care of our community requires each of us to do our part, whether it’s getting more involved with recycling efforts, helping to prevent littering or caring for green spaces. ACIPCO and its neighbors are leading by example, and similar partnerships in other areas throughout Birmingham are underway.”
Carver High School students from ninth through 11th grades planted vegetables and flowers, including hydrangeas and azaleas, in the ACIPCO–Finley community garden, and removed litter from the surrounding neighborhoods.
Among the volunteers was Carver teacher Aubrey Bennett, who said cleanup efforts have long-term impacts for both students and the community. “Volunteering for citywide cleanups teaches our students the value of taking care of our neighborhoods and the places we call home,” Bennett said. “These kids are the foundation for our future, and we need their support to sustain the beauty of our neighborhoods and keep Birmingham beautiful.”
ACIPCO’s EEO & Community Relations Director Randolph Fowler, who serves on the KBB board, thanked those who made the cleanup day a success. “I appreciate everyone who came out to support the event, especially the students who were out of school today,” Fowler said. “Cleanups are just one way we can create a greener Birmingham together. I invite everyone to consider other ways to get involved and join us in future efforts.”
