AMERICAN
Since 1905, AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company has been investing in our communities, partnering with non-profits, professional organizations and numerous schools and universities to improve people’s lives and promote the company’s Golden Rule philosophy.
AMERICAN provides support to five neighborhoods that surround our facility – ACIPCO-Finley, Hooper City, North Birmingham, North Smithfield Manor and Smithfield Estates. The company annually sponsors community outreach events in each neighborhood. These include neighborhood fun days, community clean ups and meals for neighbors.
Community Gardens
In partnership with Grace Klein Community and Grow More, Give More, an initiative of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, and the Jefferson County Master Gardeners Association Inc., community gardens were established in the ACIPCO-Finley, Hooper City and North Birmingham neighborhoods. Throughout the year, master gardeners, neighbors and employee volunteers work together in the gardens, harvesting fruits and vegetables and giving to seniors and neighbors in need.
junior achievement
Junior Achievement has been an AMERICAN community partner since 1979. The organization’s mission is to provide young people with lessons in financial literacy, work and career readiness, and entrepreneurship.
AMERICAN recently announced its investment in Junior Achievement’s new education center in downtown Birmingham. In the simulated town, AMERICAN will sponsor the JA storefront where students learn about the value of water, sewage and sanitation, and the essential products that deliver these resources to our homes, schools and businesses. The 30,000 square-foot center will provide immersive, experience-based learning in the areas of financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship to more than 20,000 middle school students each year. The educational program will connect classroom learning to real-world applications, helping students develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in life.
Hearts in Hands
Hearts in Hands serves our communities by performing critical home repairs and renovations for those in need. The organization has completed numerous projects for our neighbors, including constructing wheelchair ramps, fixing deteriorated bathroom and bedroom floors, repairing roofs and performing other home repairs.
Foundry in a Box
Foundry in a Box is a hands-on demonstration designed to teach students about the metal casting process and opportunities within the industry. Employee volunteers present Foundry In A Box during the school year to elementary through high school students.
Advancing public health and wellness
Jefferson County Conservation District
The Jefferson County Conservation District has been a community partner of AMERICAN for more than 10 years. The organization’s goal is to preserve natural resources and protect/promote the health and safety of Jefferson County. AMERICAN employees often volunteer for the organization’s annual Water Festival, which teaches students about water, conservation & environmental stewardship.
Christ Health
AMERICAN supports Christ Health and its mission of providing affordable, compassionate care to families in need. The organization’s facility provides primary care, dental services, professional counseling and prescription drugs.
Alabama Kidney Foundation
AMERICAN employees have donated to the Alabama Kidney Foundation for several years. Funding supports the foundation’s efforts to provide financial assistance, education and support services to kidney patients as well as promote organ donation awareness and prevention of kidney disease.
Laura Crandall Brown Foundation
Since 2016, AMERICAN has sponsored the Laura Crandall Brown Foundation, whose mission is to offer hope through research for early detection of ovarian cancer, empower communities through gynecologic cancer awareness and enrich lives through patient support.
Helping Those in need
Grace Klein Community
AMERICAN partners with Grace Klein Community in our community gardens and to Feed Birmingham. GKC is an educational and charitable nonprofit that collects food to help alleviate food insecurity throughout Birmingham and surrounding areas as well as provide a host of social services for those in need.
The Salvation Army Birmingham Area Command
AMERICAN has a more than 100-year history of partnering with the Salvation Army in the community to provide a host of social services, including food, clothing, disaster relief and rehabilitation.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama
AMERICAN employees have donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama for several years. The organization provides comfort, hope and care for families of ill or injured children. This includes the 73-room Ronald McDonald House as well as the Ronald McDonald Family Room at UAB Women & Infants Center.
Help 2 Others (H2O) Foundation
AMERICAN was a founding member of the Help 2 Others (H2O) Foundation in 2004 and has supported the non-profit annually since its inception. The H2O Foundation provides financial and plumbing repair assistance to those in need in the Birmingham, Alabama, area.
Greater Birmingham Humane Society
Since 2001, AMERICAN has provided funding for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society and its efforts to promote the humane treatment of people and animals through education, advocacy and services.

South Hampton K-8 Library
AMERICAN donated 3D printers in memory of long-time Smithfield Estates Neighborhood President Ellen Spencer.
North Birmingham Library
AMERICAN is proud to support the North Birmingham Library – sponsoring Family Night and chair aerobics and providing 3D printers.
The Literacy Council
AMERICAN supports The Literacy Council’s efforts to improve the lives of adults and their families through literacy education. Literacy affects every aspect of an individual’s well-being and the communities in which they live. By addressing low literacy, the company is helping families and building stronger communities.
Momentum
AMERICAN is an annual supporter of Momentum, which helps advance women in leadership. Momentum’s Executive Leadership, Upward, Momentum Works and Mentor Matching provide women with the tools to succeed and be their best.
Foundry Educational Foundation
AMERICAN provides scholarships annually to the Foundry Educational Foundation (FEF). In 2022, the company was recognized for its 75-year support of FEF, which works to strengthen the metal casting industry by supporting partnerships among students, educators and companies.
Advocating for seniors and those with disabilities
United Ability
AMERICAN employees have contributed to United Ability for more than three decades. The organization provides services to connect people with disabilities to their communities and empowers individuals to live full and meaningful lives.
Positive Maturity
Since 2005, AMERICAN has supported Positive Maturity in its mission to enhance the lives of older adults through social services and civic engagement. Local to AMERICAN’s facility in Birmingham, in 2022, Positive Maturity’s programs engaged 125 Senior Corps volunteers who served 506 members of AMERICAN’s neighboring communities through the RSVP, Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions program.
Lakeshore Foundation
AMERICAN supports the Lakeshore Foundation and its efforts to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to thrive. This includes the foundation’s fitness and aquatics, advocacy for youth and adults with disabilities, the Lakeshore Veterans program, athletic teams and more.
Down Syndrome Alabama
AMERICAN annually supports Down Syndrome Alabama and its programs to empower those with Down syndrome to live meaningful lives.
Empowering children and young adults
Birmingham Promise
AMERICAN supports Birmingham Promise and its mission to provide opportunities for Birmingham City School students to prepare for life after high school through internships and scholarships. Since its inception in 2020, the program has provided almost $11 million in tuition assistance and other support to 1,600 Birmingham City School graduates. AMERICAN also worked with Birmingham Promise in 2025 to present Foundry In A Box to three Birmingham City Schools as well as host students for a tour of our manufacturing operations.
Alabama Symphony Orchestra
AMERICAN has supported the Alabama Symphony Orchestra for more than 40 years. Its mission is to change lives through music by entertaining, educating and inspiring audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Through its educational programs, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra provides outreach to Carver High School, a partner school, and the North Birmingham Library.
Big Oak Ranch
AMERICAN employees have supported Big Oak Ranch for many years. The organization works to meet the needs of abused, neglected and abandoned children by giving them a home and a chance to realize and fulfill God’s plan for their lives.
