The AMERICAN Series 2500 Ductile Iron 250 psig AWWA Resilient Wedge Gate Valve is designed for use in drinking water, sewage and fire protection systems as well as irrigation and backflow control systems. The Series 2500 Resilient Wedge Gate Valve is furnished in configurations that are UL Listed and FM Approved.
Sealing the lubrication chamber is a series of three O-ring stem seals. The O-rings help to isolate the lubrication chamber.
Two thrust washers are used. One is located above and one is located below the thrust collar. These thrust washers provide easy operation.
The ductile iron body, bonnet and wedge provide strength and a pressure rating that meets or exceeds the requirements of AWWA C515. The tensile strength of ductile iron is more than twice that of cast iron. This added strength makes the Series 2500 more durable and rated at 250 psig. This strength and higher pressure rating is provided in a compact, lightweight and easy-to-handle ductile iron valve.
The Series 2500 valve is epoxy coated on the interior and the exterior. The fusion-bonded epoxy coating is applied prior to assembly. The bolt holes and body-to-bonnet flange surfaces are fully epoxy coated.
The body-to-bonnet seals incorporate pressure-energized o-rings which reduces the need for excessive bolt loading required by designs that use flat gaskets. The gaskets are typically reusable, which reduces downtime during any needed repair.
The Series 2500 Ductile Iron Resilient Wedge Gate Valve has these standard features:
Ductile Iron Construction
Complies with ANSI/AWWA C515
UL Listed and FM Approved
Certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372
250 psig AWWA UL and FM pressure rating
Fusion-bonded epoxy coating complies with ANSI/AWWA C550
Triple O-ring stem seals
Thrust washers
Smooth waterway design
100% leak-tight closure
Valves 2"-8" in size shall be of a resilient wedge design. The valve shall have a cold water rated working pressure of 250 psig. All cast ferrous components shall be ductile iron and shall be manufactured in compliance with the latest edition of AWWA/ANSI C515. The valve shall also be UL Listed and FM Approved in applicable configurations. The valve design shall be lightweight, easy to handle, and constructed with wall thickness per Table 2 of AWWA/ANSI C515. Heavy wall and/or cast gray-iron bodies are not acceptable. The valve shall have a smooth and oversize waterway and have the marking “D.I.” or “Ductile Iron” cast on the body. The valve wedge shall be constructed of ductile iron and provided with protective wedge guide covers in sizes 4"-8". All wedges shall be fully encapsulated with EPDM rubber. The valve shall be Certified to NSF 61 and NSF 372.
Valve stems shall be sealed by three O-rings. Two of the O-rings shall reside above the thrust collar. O-rings set in a cartridge shall not be allowed. The valve shall also be equipped with thrust washers above and below the stem thrust collar for reduction of operating torque.
All exterior valve body bolting shall be type 304 stainless steel and shall be provided with hexagonal heads, with dimensions conforming to ANSI B18.2.1. Metric size and/or socket head cap screws or bolts, are not allowed. The operating nut shall be 2" square and shall be constructed of ductile iron fitted to a square tapered stem to help ensure even valve operating input torque. All body gaskets shall be of the pressure energized O-ring style design.
All internal and external ferrous cast surfaces of the valve body and bonnet shall have a fusion-bonded epoxy coating, complying with AWWA/ANSI C550. The coating shall be electro-statically applied prior to assembly.
All valves shall be the AMERICAN Series 2500 Resilient Wedge Gate Valve.
