Thomas Named Sr. Engineering Project Manager

H. Joe Thomas has been named senior project manager of engineering at AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Compay (AMERICAN).

Thomas began his career with AMERICAN as a service man in the ductile iron pipe department in 1977. In 1978 he worked as a furnace tender in melting and in 1979 transferred to customer service as draftsman. In 1981 he became project engineer in the engineering department and in 2005 was named project manager, the position held at the time of his current appointment.

Thomas is a 1981 graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He is a professional engineer in the state of Alabama and is a graduate of the Center for Creative Leadership.

Thomas is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the ACIPCO Leadership Association.

He and wife Tamara Allen Thomas have two children and two grandchildren.

Founded in 1905, Birmingham-based AMERICAN is a manufacturer of ductile iron pipe, spiral-welded steel pipe, fire hydrants and valves for the waterworks industry and electric-resistance steel pipe for the oil and natural gas industries. AMERICAN’s diversified product line also includes static castings and fire pumps.
