St. Cloud Makes the SMaRT Choice for Infrastructure Development

All pressure pipe installed within the city of St. Cloud, Minnesota, will now be SMaRT certified, a designation given to products that use recycled materials, provide energy savings and are environmentally safe. Ductile iron pipe is the only pressure pipe to obtain this rating from the Institute for Market Transformation to Sustainability, making it the SMaRT choice for infrastructure development.

“The city of St. Cloud is committed to sustainable practices and products that help conserve energy and protect water resources,” said Patrick Shea, director of Public Services for the city of St. Cloud. “The inclusion of SMaRT certified products in city projects helps reduce environmental impact while ensuring durability and reliability of water and wastewater infrastructure.”

Jeff Blakely, a sales engineer with AMERICAN Ductile Iron Pipe, a division of AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company, worked with the city to revise its specifications to ensure SMaRT pipe is used. “Ductile iron pipe is a durable and environmentally-friendly product made from recycled materials. It is designed to last for decades,” Blakely said.
