Almost 300 students, teachers and parents from across Jefferson County attended the 19th Annual Jefferson County Water Festival on March 8 at Samford University. This water education event allows students to learn about water, our most precious resource, as well as the importance of conservation and environmental stewardship. Through hands-on activities, students learned about the water cycle, aquifers and filtration.

ACIPCO sponsors the event each year. Communications Department employees volunteered this year to teach classes on the water cycle, where our water comes from, how our drinking water is treated, and why it’s important to keep it clean.

“It was such a delight to teach the process of filtration to students at the Water Festival,” Communications Manager Myra Hunter said. “The students were so bright and eager to learn, and they really enjoyed the experience.”
