The Karegnondi Water Authority (KWA) pipeline project in Flint, Michigan, was recently named the Midwest “deal of the year,” by a publication covering the municipal bond industry. The award is designed to recognize “innovation in finance,” according to The Bond Buyer. The KWA pipeline will supply 60 million gallons of water a day to Flint and Genesee County, and is scheduled for completion in 2015.
AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company is supplying spiral-welded pipe, ductile iron pipe and large diameter Flex-Ring gate valves for the project. In November 2013, AMERICAN announced plans to build a new spiral-weld pipe facility in Flint to support the KWA and other regional water infrastructure projects. The facility became operational in December 2014 and employs about 50 people.
