Earthquake Resistant Ductile Iron Pipe, Valve, and Hydrant System

The following study was presented at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Pipelines conference in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 19, 2016. Maury D. Gaston, an engineer and 34-year iron industry veteran with AMERICAN Ductile Iron Pipe and SpiralWeld Pipe, and Ryan S. Ratcliffe, AMERICAN Flow Control field sales manager, presented the study on AMERICAN’s Earthquake Joint System, which protects water infrastructure during seismic events. The system, for use with AMERICAN’s pipe, valves and hydrants, moves up and down and side to side to resist the tremendous underground forces from an earthquake.
