Community Garden Planted in ACIPCO-Finley Neighborhood

The reconstructed ACIPCO-Finley garden is nearing completion. Eight garden boxes have been placed and six more will be added soon. Planted in the garden are cucumbers, tomatoes, okra, pole beans, peppers, squash, collard greens and watermelon, among other items. Also planted in each garden box are various flowering plants to attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators. Vegetables and fruits harvested from the garden will be given to seniors and other neighbors in need. ACIPCO is working with Grace Klein Community and Grow More, Give More, an initiative of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Jefferson County Master Gardener Association Inc., this year on the ACIPCO-Finley garden. The organization provides tips for growing healthy gardens and sharing items harvested with others.
