Couture Begins Third Term on STI/SPFA Board of Directors

AMERICAN SpiralWeld Pipe (ASWP) Territory Manager Kyle Couture was recently appointed to his third term as vice president of the Steel Tank Institute/Steel Plate Fabricators Association (STI/SPFA) Board of Directors. He will continue to serve as chair of the organization’s Steel Pipe Section.

During his time on the board, Couture helped launch a STI/SPFA webinar series on the uses and applications of steel pipe. The series began in 2022 and is continuing this year. More than 650 people have viewed the webinars.

Another highlight of Couture’s tenure is the introduction of a four-hour preconference at the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Utility Engineering & Surveying Institute (UESI) 2023 Pipelines Conference in San Antonio, Texas. The presentation titled “50 Years of Success – Steel Pipe Review of Standards and Design” will be held Sunday, August 13, 2023, from 8 a.m. to noon. “Fourteen steel pipe experts from around the world will offer their advice and insights on 50 years of steel pipe standards, manufacturing, design and installations,” Couture said. “It’s something this year’s Pipelines attendees will not want to miss.” To learn more or to register, visit pipelinesconference.org.

A native of Long Island, New York, Couture joined AMERICAN in 1996 after earning his mechanical engineering degree from Auburn University. He worked in the AMERICAN Ductile Iron Pipe and ASWP Sales Divisions until 2002 when he became a project engineer in ASWP Customer Service. In 2005, Couture was promoted to assistant manager of ASWP Customer Service, and he was named territory manager of ASWP in 2019. He holds Professional Engineer registrations in Florida and Mississippi. He is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and is involved with the development and maintenance of steel pipe standards with the American Water Works Association’s Steel Water Pipe Manufacturers Technical Advisory Committee.

STI/SPFA is a non-profit trade organization whose member companies fabricate steel tanks, pipe and pressure vessels for use in the petroleum, food, water and chemical processing industries. STI/SPFA also provides a Quality Certification Program to ensure pipe fabricators meet certain quality requirements. ASWP holds this certification, which is a requirement in most piping specifications in the U.S. water transmission industry. To learn more, visit steeltank.com.
