College Students, Neighbors Partner With ACIPCO for Community Events
Awards and Achievements, Community Involvement, Employee NewsSamford University students joined Grace Klein Community and ACIPCO in a community cleanup and garden preparation event on March 19. The 26 Samford students picked up trash throughout the ACIPCO-Finley and North Birmingham neighborhoods. Students also cleaned out last year’s North Birmingham garden and tore out the ACIPCO-Finley garden, which will be reconstructed this year. A community garden is being planted in Hooper City as well. Vegetables and fruits harvested from these gardens will be given to seniors and other neighbors in need. All of the gardens planted this year will be in coordination with Grow More, Give More, an initiative of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Jefferson County Master Gardener Association Inc. that provides tips for growing a healthy garden and sharing with others.
The following weekend on March 26, ACIPCO partnered with the Collegeville neighborhood and UAB for a community cleanup event. More than 30 students and volunteers picked up trash throughout the neighborhood.
